Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information EliExplains.org processes when you use the site, why it is processed, and the choices available to you.
The short version
EliExplains.org is owned and operated by Vansh Tiwari, its founder, as part of the Open Mosaic Education Foundation educational initiative. The initiative is not currently a separate registered legal entity; Vansh Tiwari is the site operator responsible for the practices described in this policy.
EliExplains.org is a static, informational website with no accounts, submission forms, comments, newsletter, or advertising. Learning activity and the welcome-intro preference are stored in your browser. Hosting providers process technical request information, and if you email us, we receive the information in your message. Search matching runs in your browser, but search terms can appear in the page URL and request metadata as explained below. The application does not include advertising trackers. Its fonts, images, scripts, and styles are served from this site’s own domain; hosting features are described below.
Information you provide
You may contact Vansh Tiwari at [email protected]. Emailing is optional. We receive your email address, any name you provide, your message, attachments, and associated email metadata. This information is used to respond, investigate corrections or rights concerns, maintain relevant correspondence, and meet applicable legal obligations. Please send only information needed for your request; do not send passwords, medical records, or other unnecessary sensitive information. Emailing does not create a professional advisory or attorney–client relationship.
The mailbox is hosted by Google’s Gmail service, which processes and stores messages under its Privacy Policy. Correspondence is kept as needed to handle the request, maintain a record of its resolution, resolve disputes, or meet legal obligations. You may ask for deletion at the same address, subject to applicable retention requirements. Information may also be disclosed when required by law or necessary to protect legal rights. It is not sold or used by EliExplains.org for advertising.
Search terms and page addresses
Search results are matched in your browser using downloaded indexes. Search terms may be included in the search page’s URL and browser history. Loading, refreshing, or sharing that address can send the terms to the hosting service, and the URL can appear in request metadata. Vocabulary search also requests static index files selected by search prefixes, so those requests can reveal part of a query to the host. Avoid entering sensitive personal information in search. Recent searches are also saved in the local activity record described below.
Learning activity stored in your browser
To let you pick up where you left off, the site remembers a small amount of learning activity in your browser’s localStorage, under a single key named eli.activity.v1: the last twelve lessons you opened (title and address), the last eight subjects, your last eight search terms, the last eight glossary terms you looked up, practice questions you answered incorrectly (the question’s identifier, subject and a short excerpt, without a fixed item cap, so it can be retried), your practice progress for up to eighty chapters, lessons or topics (how many questions you answered there, how many were correct and your best round — counts only, so the practice outline can show how far you have got), and — if you choose an area from “What are you studying?” on the home page — the area you chose (older saved records may include a dismissed-area preference), which only changes the order in which the home page and the subject directory list the areas. This information is written and read only by your own browser on this device. It is never transmitted to EliExplains.org or to anyone else, is not combined with any identifier, and is not used for analytics or advertising. It is not shared between devices or browsers. You can erase it at any time with the “Clear my activity” control on the home page or question library, or by clearing site data in your browser settings; it also disappears if your browser is set to discard site data. Core browsing works without it; saved history, progress, and personalization features depend on the record.
The question library also uses a versioned IndexedDB database named eli.practice.v1. It stores one resumable session: its scope and filters, mode, length, order and random seed, question identifiers and content revisions, position, selected answers, checked feedback and skipped status. It also keeps intentional grading attempts (question and session identifiers, revision, selected option, correctness and time) and an uncapped missed-question list. It does not save downloaded question bodies as the authority for answers. These records support distinct-question coverage, attempt accuracy, Review and pause/resume on this browser. Earlier aggregate scores are not converted into per-question coverage. Existing missed items are migrated once; older items already discarded by a previous cap cannot be recovered.
This detailed learning data stays on this browser until you clear it or the browser removes site data; there is no account, cloud synchronization or application upload. Historical attempts remain after published answers change, while current session feedback is checked against the current release. “Clear my activity” clears both learning stores and the active session. “Clear recent searches” clears only recent search history. If browser storage is blocked or full, you can still practice on the current page; a notice explains when progress cannot be saved for a later visit.
Information processed automatically by our infrastructure
The site is delivered through Cloudflare Pages, a hosting and content-delivery service operated by Cloudflare, Inc. Cloudflare processes technical data to deliver and protect the site, including IP addresses, requested URLs, and request metadata such as browser type. Its processing and retention practices are described in the Cloudflare Privacy Policy. The application does not maintain visitor accounts or a server-side copy of your local learning-activity record. Hosting and email services may process information outside your country.
Cloudflare also provides traffic and performance reporting features. Its hosting layer includes a Web Analytics script in served pages, although the site’s current browser security policy blocks that script from running in browsers that enforce the policy. Hosting request processing still occurs. These provider features are separate from the learning-activity record stored in your browser.
Cookies and similar technologies
The site sets no cookies of its own. Its browser storage consists of the learning-activity record (localStorage key eli.activity.v1), the detailed practice database (IndexedDB name eli.practice.v1) described above, and a separate boolean (eli_intro_seen_v2; older intros used eli_intro_seen and eli_intro_seen_universe_v2) that is set only after you finish or skip the homepage welcome intro, to record that you have watched or skipped the optional story. The story never plays automatically on an ordinary visit. The application does not transmit these stored records; clearing site data removes them. The site uses no sessionStorage or service worker. The application does not use advertising or fingerprinting code; Cloudflare’s reporting features are described above. Local storage supports the visible learning and intro features; no cookie consent banner is currently displayed. Cloudflare may set security-related cookies when protective features are triggered.
Children’s privacy
EliExplains.org is a general-audience educational resource written for college-level learners and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly solicit personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through our contact email, contact [email protected] so we can review it and take appropriate action, including deletion where required.
Your rights and regional privacy laws
Your privacy rights depend on your location and applicable law and may include access, correction, deletion, or other rights concerning personal information. Send questions or requests to [email protected]. We may need information sufficient to verify and respond to a request. EliExplains.org does not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. You can remove the local learning-activity record with the “Clear my activity” control or clear all site data in your browser settings; this does not delete email correspondence or records held by hosting providers.
Changes to this policy
If the site’s actual behavior changes — for example, if a contact form, server-saved progress, or additional analytics are added — this policy will be revised before or at the time the change ships, and the date below will be updated.
